SC Redistricting Voted Down
UPDATE: South Carolina gerrymander attempt rejected! 🛑
In a 29-17 vote, the state Senate struck down an amendment — the same one the state House approved last week — that would have allowed lawmakers to re-convene for a special session to consider congressional redistricting.
Changing the maps right now would have been disastrous. With the June 9 primaries approaching, over 8,000 absentee ballots have already been mailed to military and overseas voters. Doing this now would have thrown the entire election into chaos.
South Carolina’s seven congressional districts will remain as is, for now, with Rep. Jim Clyburn as the lone Democrat representing the state’s only Black-majority district — a seat he’s held since 1993.
Take a moment to celebrate this win—but stay vigilant. We need to keep our eyes wide open for any future attempts to manipulate the 2026 midterms. Stay engaged! 🗣️🇺🇸
