Healthcare and Veterans: Keeping Our Promises
Keep the promises we made to the people who earned them.
I spent 20 years in the Navy, and I know what we owe the people who serve and the people who paid into this system their whole lives. We keep our word, we keep our hospitals open, and we bring real accountability to the industries driving up the cost of care.
Healthcare
Stop the premium cliff facing roughly 98,000 people in SC-7 who rely on their health care tax credits, so families, especially those in their late 50s and early 60s, are not priced out of coverage.
Protect Medicaid and keep our rural hospitals and clinics open, because in places like Marion and Dillon, the nearest emergency room can already be an hour away, and Marlboro County has no hospital at all.
Reform health care by holding hospital, pharmaceutical, and insurance companies accountable for the costs they drive, instead of just subsidizing them. The federal government should not be bankrolling these industries.
Protect women's reproductive freedom and keep personal medical decisions between a woman and her doctor, not politicians.
Veterans and First Responders
Stop every attempt to limit or cut disability benefits for our veterans.
Fully fund the VA and reverse the staffing cuts that gutted veterans' mental health care.
Establish an addiction care center of excellence inside the VA: a public-private partnership run on the Medicare model, staffed and delivered largely through nonprofits supported by federal grants.
Treat the veteran suicide crisis as the national emergency it is, with the urgency it demands.
End veteran homelessness through housing assistance, VA home loans, emergency shelter, and prevention services, because no one who wore the uniform for this country should be left without a roof over their head.
Protect the Social Security Fairness Act for the teachers, police officers, and firefighters who earned their benefits.
